Private patients

Mary O’Brien’s private practice is based at Derby Private Health on the Royal Derby Hospital site. A referral from a GP is not required, patients can book direct appointments with Mary O’Brien’s private secretary, Mrs Chris Parker.

Some patients have health insurance and some patients choose to pay for procedures themselves. We work with all major health insurance providers including BUPA, Aviva, AXA Health, WPA, Benenden and many others.

NHS referrals

Mary O’Brien’s NHS practice is based at the world-renowned Pulvertaft Hand Centre within the Royal Derby Hospital. All NHS referrals require a GP letter. The current waiting time in May 2023 is several months from referral to initial appointment. If surgery is required, patients are added to the NHS waiting list in order of surgical priority. The waiting list for surgery may be several months to 2 years.
