Cosmetic Surgery
Any decision to have cosmetic surgery is an important one. You need to identify the right surgeon for you to advise on the right operation for you at the right time. An individualised approach, not one size fits all.
Cosmetic surgery varies widely, from surgery to alter the appearance of small scars to major operations such as breast surgery (to increase or reduce breast size), abdominal surgery and facial surgery. For example, reducing the weight of heavy breasts can improve backache, neck ache, rashes beneath the breasts, and grooving from bra straps.
The positive psychological impact and positive effects on self-esteem in carefully selected patients can be a huge benefit.
People have many different reasons for seeking cosmetic surgery and Mary O’Brien is very experienced in offering advice, guidance and support about a wide range of options relating to cosmetic surgery.
Treatments offered include anti-wrinkle injections, upper eyelid reduction (blepharoplasty), tummy tucks (abdominoplasty), breast reduction, breast enlargement, breast uplift, scar revision, ear surgery, injections for excessive sweathing (hyperhidrosis), inverted nipple correction and others.
Mary O’Brien has written and contributed to textbooks about surgery and has published research about Plastic Surgery in academic journals. She is an external examiner for the MS Aesthetics Course (Aesthetic Surgery) at the University of London and has featured widely in UK and international newspapers and magazines.
Hand Surgery
Mary O’Brien has worked as a Consultant Hand and Plastic Surgeon since 2008 at the world-renowned Pulvertaft Hand Centre in Derby.
Hand surgery is a highly specialised field that focuses on diagnosing, treating and repairing injuries, disorders and congenital defects of the hand, wrist and forearm. It combines principles from both orthopaedic surgery and plastic surgery to ensure optimal outcomes for patients.

Mary O’Brien also performs reconstructive procedures, such as microsurgery, to address the consequences of trauma, including amputations and severe burns. This can include surgery to reattach hands.
The intricate anatomy of the hand requires a deep understanding of its complex structure and function. Mary O’Brien has undergone extensive training to master the techniques and tools necessary to address a wide range of conditions. She works closely with hand therapists and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care and rehabilitation.
An individually-tailored approach allows treatment to restore function and aesthetics, ultimately improving the quality of life for individuals with hand-related issues, empowering patients to pursue their goals.
